India 156/3 — Rohit Sharma c Mitchell Starc b Mitchell Starc 73

Earlier: India 112/2 after 25 overs, Rohit 61 (83) and Shreyas Iyer 40 (54).

Mitchell Starc struck to remove Rohit Sharma, ending a patient and important innings of 73 as India reached 156 for 3 in Adelaide. The stand between Rohit and Shreyas Iyer had steadied India’s innings – they were 112 for 2 after 25 overs with Rohit on 61 from 83 balls and Iyer on 40 from 54.

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first against Shubman Gill’s side in the second of the three-match ODI series at the Adelaide Oval. The decision paid early dividends as Australia’s pace attack kept India under pressure.

India came into this match hoping for a bounce-back after a disappointing first ODI in Perth, where both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to make an impact against the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. The Australian quicks once again proved a handful.

Middle-order and bowling watch

KL Rahul looked in good touch in the middle overs and got valuable support from Axar Patel. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed with aggressive hitting toward the end in Perth, has continued to show positive intent.

All eyes are also on spin options. Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav did not get a chance in the first ODI, but Adelaide conditions have been friendly to spin recently. The Gautam Gambhir-led management could consider bringing Kuldeep into the side in place of Harshit Rana to add variety to the attack.
