Barcelona Smash Olympiacos 6-1: Fermin Lopez Hat-Trick, Rashford Shines Ahead of Clasico
Marcus Rashford scored twice and Fermin Lopez stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick as Barcelona thumped Olympiacos 6-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday. Hansi Flick’s side tore apart their opposition, hitting four goals in just 11 minutes of the second half, taking full advantage after Olympiacos were reduced to 10 men with a controversial red card.
Barca almost took the lead within five minutes, but Rashford’s thunderous volley from 10 yards flew over the bar. No worries though, because Fermin Lopez opened the scoring just two minutes later after Lamine Yamal dribbled past multiple defenders and the keeper before teeing up the finish.
Fermin added a second before half-time, calmly slotting home after a perfect pass from teenage sensation Dro Fernandez.
The second half started with some drama. Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi looked to score, but the goal was ruled out for offside. A penalty was awarded after Eric Garcia handled the ball in the build-up, and El Kaabi converted to make it 1-1.
Things got worse for the Greek side six minutes later when Santiago Hezze received a second yellow for an apparent brush on Marc Casado, leaving Olympiacos with 10 men. Barcelona then won a penalty after Rashford was fouled by goalkeeper Tzolakis. Despite VAR suggesting the penalty was borderline, Lamine Yamal calmly converted it.
Rashford added a fourth with a smart finish inside the area. Fermin completed his hat-trick with a thunderous strike, and Rashford sealed the night with a long-range sixth to cap a dominant win ahead of Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid.
